Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain From Shoulder Blades To Mid-back

My friend has back pain for two days between the shoulder blades mid-back. The skin all across this part of the back is mottled and splotchy colored (dark and light areas), there is a reddened area of inflammation where the pain is located . Any idea of what could cause this?

Hi,

If it is one-sided it may be herpes zoster. If it is between neck and blades then it may be a cervical problem. He should undergo cervical spine x-ray and orthopedic surgeon evaluation.
