Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Hips

severe hip pain in my left hip at times. I thought I might need a hip replacement. I go to the va and they xrayed it and saw no problem. I was down in the floor one day and when i tried to get up the pain was so severe I hollered out. I take tramadol, and I also have some hydrocodone 10mg that I take if the tramadol doesn t help. How can I have severe pain in my hip but an xray doesn t show that I have a problem.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

You should try to get a referral for either an ultrasound, a CAT / MRI scan, as you may have an inflamed bursa or avascular necrosis of your femur.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
