Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Foot

Please advise about an acute foot pain I have been having for about two weeks. The top of my right foot, an inch or so back from my third toe, appears to have a puncture that could have been caused by an insect bite, but there is no stinger. Ice makes it better, but only temporarily. Benadryl has not been helpful either.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from acute foot pain since 2 weeks. Your skin is punctured on your right foot due to insect bite. You should wash the affected area with soap and water to prevent infection. Keep your foot raised on a stool while sitting or elevate the affected foot on a pillow while on bed to help reduce swelling. You can apply hydrocortisone cream or ointment on the affected area for relief.

If you experience sweating or chills, body ache, nausea, dark blue or purple area towards the center of the bite then you should visit ER and take medical support. You can take Combiflam or Naproxen, one stat when pain. Antihistamine will help to reduce pain, inflammation, swelling, etc. Get clinically examined, you may need an oral course of Augmentin for faster relief. Apply antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin or Bacitracin on the affected area to help prevent infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
