Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Knee

hi about 5 weeks ago now I was coming down stairs and suddenly my knee gave way luckily I was near the bottom of the stairs, my knee hurt when it happened and ached for the rest of the day and a couple of days later. now however I am in a lot of pain when I first get out of bed (I cant put my foot down straight away) or if I get up after sitting or if I walk any distance, what do you think is wrong and what should I do

- Must get an MRI of the knee to get the diagnosis including the extent
of injury & further guidelines of management .
- Primary relief at present with ice pack application and ibuprofen tablet.
