Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Left Shoulder

My left shoulder, shoulder blade, arm and neck has been in severe pain for over a month. I just recently lost strength in the arm and started having sharp shooting pains into my neck shoulder blade and down my left arm into my elbow. What is wrong with me? It almost feels like it did when I broke my collar bone 13 years ago.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The pains you have seem to be due to nerve compression at the cervical spine (spondylosis). The same symptoms arose with collar bone fracture in past due to pressure on the same nerve (supplying affected parts) at neck level by fractured segments of bone or pressure exerted by inflammation or healing at the fracture. X-ray/MRI of the neck would clear the diagnosis followed by specific management (Rest, hot or cold pack, pain medication/physiotherapy/surgery as per need).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
