Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Leg And Knee

I have had pain in my lower left leg and knee for 3 weeks. I m scheduled for a knee replacement in July. My lower leg developed a bruise-like spot yesterday morning. By now the black spot has traveled to the knee. The knee has intermittent severe pain. I had gallbladder sergery in March and in April spent 5 days in a car traveling from Florida to New Hampshire. Could this be a blood clot and should I seek medical attention?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history you can take tab acetaminophen for pain relief. You can apply diclofenac gel locally and you can also use the heating pads along that. If still you do not get relief then i will advise you to consult with orthopedics specialist, he may procure blood investigations, complete hemogram, calcium levels, vit D levels,as per requirement. He may also advise X-ray or MRI if required. Till then keep your self hydrated and do physical therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
