Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Lower Buttock

I have developed a severe pain in my right lower buttock, made worse by pressure (sitting, touching etc.) There is no visible mark on the skin, The pain started several days ago but was mild and it was only noticed while sitting. Now it is more severe and is achy, burning and stinging when resting or moving. Could this be shingles?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

At this area, it may indicate several issues and most common are a pilonidal cyst or perianal abscesses. These are inflammatory processes in the sacral and perianal area usually manifested with pain, redness, swelling, fever and pus discharge.

Cellulitis is less common and may be present in the sacral area as well. This is mostly caused by beta-hemolytic streptococcus and it necessitates antibiotic treatment with augmentin, or combination of ciprinol+ metronidazole.

You should also, apply cold compresses, take nonsteroid painkillers such as ibuprofen and rest. If there is no improvement, you should see the doctor and have intravenous antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
