Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Lower Left Back
Yes, I am having severe pain in left lower back. I have had fusion of lumbar vertebrae 1-5 almost 6 years ago and fusion of both SI joints a year ago this past June. This is second night that I have severe muscle spasm. Feels like someone tied a cinch around my lower back. I have a few Cyclobenzaprine 10mg tablets left from the last surgery which I took a few initially after surgery and then have been taking tizanidine 2-3 times a day. I go to a deep massage therapist twice weekly and had a treatment today. I have been using ice which I thought gave me some relief last night as I was able to sleep but tonight I was awakened from the pain. I really don t want to go to the ER in the middle of the night and then be stranded at the hospital without a ride home. Would it be safe to take the medication for tonight? I do have in my arsenal Percocet 5/325, but I have been trying to not take it at all possible and use other modalities. Ruth
With your medical history, I must say you are a fighter and you have been doing the best thing by following your doctor’s advice on taking medicines and physiotherapy sessions. Whenever the pain is excruciating and awakens you in the middle of night the pain relieving medicine given by your doctor that you mentioned is advisable to take. It will give some relief from the pain, the next thing I suggest you see your doctor next morning in the OPD and talk about the last night’s episode of pain.
As your treating doctor knows all history about you and the symptoms, he is the best person to guide you on further management of the pain efficiently. As well as to avoid such episodes from happening in future he will give you best advice on additional things.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
