General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Severe pain in the ribs with popping sound is commonly due to slipping rib syndrome. It can also be due to hair fracture or fracture ribs.

Get physically examined to assess any swelling or inflammation, get X-Ray & Imaging tests done if required. Get treated at the earliest.

Take Acetaminophen(Tylenol), one sos when pain. You can also take Combiflam (NSAIDS), hot & cold compress to get rid of the pain.

Rib problems commonly take 4-6 weeks to get treated. Stay at rest, avoid heavy work. Take calcium-rich food or dietary supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
