Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, i m having problems with my shoulder. I m unable to lift my arm outward (like straight out or above my head) without severe pain in my shoulder. It feels as if something is ripping or tearing and i feel as if i m losing strength the high i rise my arm. I haven t been in any accidents or injured it that i can think of. This hs been going on for about 6 months now.
I have studied your case and I would suggest you encourage him for surgery. I do not think that eight years old is not a contraindication for surgery.
If there is a complete loss of cartilage than taking pain killer is not going to tackle this issue. and these pain killers will also have a side effect.
So I would recommend you to opt for one of the surgery.
1. Arthroscopy debridement of the shoulder- It will provide good pain relief, and it is not a big surgery.
2. Shoulder replacement- This is slightly bigger surgery but even this can be done with due consideration by the anesthetist.
3. A steroid injection can be given for pain relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
