Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain While On Medication For Shingles

The pain is so hard I can t sleep. I have no blister with this shingles. The pain is shooting, grabbing, piercing, and comes and goes. Should I be taking pain medicine along with the zoster medication and the gabapentin. They are not helping the pain. What should I do for the pain?

Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to Herpes Zoster. Gabapentin is a very effective painkiller in this diagnosis. Based on the fact that it is not effective, you may need another prescription painkiller. You may try Oxycodone to treat the pain. It is a prescription painkiller, so you should consult a neurologist before taking the medication.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
