Suggest Treatment For Severe Productive Cough And Popping Sensation Near Collarbone

A couple years ago I had a bad cough with mucus in my throat. It last 4-6 weeks. I coughed a lot and hard. Eventually I had a popping sensation on my left side under my collar bone. Now when I laugh or cough hard, I still have that sensation. Doesn t hurt but feels odd and makes me not want to laugh or cough. I went to a pulmonologist and my breathing was fine. I never have smoked. He didn t know what the cause was of the popping. Now I have bronchitis and that sensation is back. I just want the popping to go away. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The lung infections are associated with coughing. The pressure during coughing might be severe enough to cause injury to muscles and ligaments attached to collar bone. Once you treat bronchitis adequately, the coughing will reduce, and no more pressure on collar bone structures. This will help reduce the popping sensation. So, it is important to get treated adequately and heal the primary problem (bronchitis).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
