Suggest Treatment For Severe Red Rash On The Upper Ams
Hello! I have suddenly developed a splotchy red rash on my upper arms. It does not itch or burn, but does seem a tiny bit dry and flaky in areas. Not much though...I first noticed it yesterday around 7pm and put hydrocortisone cream on it, even though it wasn t bothering me. Today it doesn t look any better and I don t know if I should go to a doctor or wait and see if it clears up. It s really going to put a damper on my Valentine s Day plans... :( I ve looked at pictures of rashes online, to no avail. I can t tell what this is and I just want the ugliness to go away! Please help!
Hello and welcome to HCM, A painless non-itchy red splotchy rash on arms appears to be due to primary skin lesion. Absence of pain or itching rules out infection, insect bite or allergic reaction at the site. Primary skin dermatosis like psoriasis are characterized by white scales which leave red skin after removal of white scales. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist for clinical assessment for clinical assessment and definitive diagnosis. Treatment can instituted after a definitive diagnosis is made. It is not advisable to use steroid cream without a definitive diagnosis is made.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
