This occurs due to water retention, excess intake of salt, obesity or underlying conditions like
liver or
kidney disease. Avoid being seated or simply standing for long periods of time. If
obese loose weight. You are suggested to limit the intake of salty food, salty snacks and limit salt intake. Exercise regularly to maintain good circulation. Keep yourself well hydrated. take sips of water throughout the day, take fluids and beverage.
Use compression stockings. Soak your foot in Epsom salt. Raise your feet above your heart. Keep it on a stool while sitting or on a pillow when on bed to prevent water retention. Get blood tests and imaging tests done to rule out
gout,
arthritis, OA or RA. You will be treated accordingly with diuretics if needed. Fluid retention occurs due to low
magnesium. Take almonds, cashew nuts, brown rice, spinach, etc.
Take potassium rich food like lentils, kidney beans to reduce water retention.
Massage therapy is effective. If gout is detected, switch to a low purine diet. To get rid of pain, you can take pain relieving medications after food.
