Suggest Treatment For Severe Throat Pain And Ear Pain

Hello, I was in our local clinic for a throat culture yesterday. The rapid came out negative. Since then my throat, ear have become even more painful. My husband has been gone all week but now looked down my throat and sees a white circular shape. My glands are so sensitive that I can pinpoint a gland and can barely touch it along my neck. The dr. Yesterday said it must be a virus, but I disagree. It Is so specifically placed as pain. Could something get infected or abscess in your throat? My ears looked fine yesterday. Urgent care is closed, not sure of emergency room. I took ibuprofen and it does help but now isn t cutting the pain as well. This has hurt for a week now.... Advice appreciated. Thanks so much.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your severe throat pain and ear pain. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like acid reflux , strep throat and viral pharyngitis . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test along with blood test and physical examination with laryngoscope . Doctor may prescribe anti bacterial like amoxicillin or anti viral like acyclovir along with anti inflammatory and decongestants , because sometimes infection from throat can spread to ears through eustachian tube . Doctor may refer you to gastroenterologist if the problem will be related with acid reflux . For now do warm saline gargles , take steam and apply dry warm compresses to external ear .
