Suggest Treatment For Severe Throat Pain Despite Consuming Antibiotics

I have been sick for 14 days. I have severe pain in my throat though it is not that red. It hurts worse to move my tongue and to swallow. I have taken antibiotics but this hasn t helped. My glands in the back of my head/neck area are also very swollen. I was tested for Mono but it was negative. Do you have any idea to what could be causing this pain?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe throat pain despite consuming antibiotics which can occur due to bacterial as well as viral infection and there is other factor also that is acid reflux , which also give such symptoms. In your case the symptoms are either due to viral infection which can not be cure antibacterial medicine or due to acid reflux . Low immunity can also be one of the reason . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist if not getting relief with present medicine for proper diagnosis like swab test and viral culture test . Doctor may order stronger antibiotics , antiviral ( acyclovir ) along with decongestant and expectorant . For now do betadine and warm saline gargles and take steam. Avoid taking cold carbonated beverages and avoid taking oily, fried and spicy food. Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for acid reflux .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
