Suggest Treatment For Severe Tooth Ache During Pregnancy

I am 28 weeks pregnant and have been having severe tooth ache from nerve damage but the dentist will not do anything until after baby is born. Someone offered me tylenol 3 so I took 3 of them one day and 2 the next. Since this helped with the pain, I decided to do further research and found out that they also consist of codeine. I also read about the meconium testing and am now worried this will show up. Would such a small amount only taken twice be enough to show up in the test?

Hi..
Welcome to HCM..

As per your complain, Codeine is a Narcotic pain reliever that is not recommended during pregnancy as long term intake of narcotics can cause dependence in the foetus.

But as you have taken only for a day or two, it will not cause any dependence and Meconium testing that is to test the first stool of the newborn baby for its drug or toxin level is done is not needed in your case as such a small duration of drug intake will not cause dependence..

I would therefore suggest you not to worry but will advise you to take plain Acetaminophen or Paracetamol as it is safe in pregnancy..
Any other medication should only be taken only after consent of your Gynaecologist..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
