My husband had the flu last week with vomiting and diarrhea. But the diarrhea is still there almost every two hours. It s been a week. Not urinating much. He has been eating and drinking Gatorade . He has had a heart attack three years ago with four stents. His resting heart Rate is usually about 56 but has gone up to 70 to 80. Just concern what to do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your concern. Your husband is getting dehydrated & so passing less urine. Supplement him with Oral Rehydrating fluids, Electrol, soups, juices to maintain the electrolyte content of the body.

Give him anti-diarrhea & anti emetics to control diarrhea & vomiting. If it does not get controlled, you need to visit ER, he needs intravenous fluid support & injections to control his symptoms.

Stop any Protein related energy drink, high protein will further load the liver. Get Liver function test, CBC, Urinalysis done to rule out any liver disorder. Give him boiled food, porridge, oat meal, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
