Suggest Treatment For Severe Weight Loss And Rectal Cancer

My mom has been suffering weight loss, 30 pounds in 6 mos., she also had what appeared to be thread like thinks in her feces, severe diarrhea, and maybe some dark blood on occasion. She has been tested for parasites and finally had a colonoscopy which determined she has rectal cancer, 1 fairly good sized tumor. My question is can the thread like substance, which is still present, be sloughing of the tumor or the lining of colon? She has only had one chemo treatment so far, and a PET scan showed no evidence of Parasites, we are just having trouble getting a clear answer on where these threads are coming from. Thank you!

Hello,

* The thread-like discharge with a diagnosed case of rectal cancer indicates sloughing of intestine epithelium from that of the rectal wall which can be inflammatory or non-inflammatory in nature.

* Treatment would definitely be consist of multiple parameters management as

- resection anastomosis decision as per the evaluation of oncosurgeon

- hydration with plenty of liquids (some may require intravenous fluid)
- high protein, iron diet to combat loss via inflammatory mediators and secondary anemia from blood loss
- packed cell volume in certain cases
- radiation, chemotherapy as per the biopsy report of specimen and lymph node status.
