Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In The Big Toe

Tonight, I have been feeling a strange, sudden pin prick sensation in my left toe (the one directly next to the big toe). It is sharp, painful and sudden. It does not last long, but keep happening over and over again every... 30 seconds to maybe a minute or so. I have been up for hours trying to sleep, but this keeps happening. How do I make it stop?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The pain may be due to neuralgia (nerve related pain). This is the most common cause of the type of discomfort that you are describing.

Neuralgia is due to neuropathy which is abnormal structure or function of the nerves.
It can be temporary or permanent.

Possible causes include: (1) vitamin b12 and folate deficiency
(2)diabetes
(3)trauma
(4)liver or kidney disease
(5)side effect of medication
(6)infection such as shingles
(7)hormonal conditions such as thyroid disease
(8)nerve diseases such as stroke, ms
(9)idiopathic- cause not known

It may stop on its own but if it continues then your doctor can provide you with medication that is used in neuropathy.

In addition you can be investigated to determine the cause, this would require blood tests for the conditions mentioned.

I hope this helps
