Suggest Treatment For Sharp Shooting Pain In The Left Ear

My 89 year old aunt is experiencing sharp shooting pains in her left ear. She saw the audiologist today and she told her that her eardrum was discolored a little. She asked if she had been having pain and she said no. She my aunt is experiencing short term memory loss. Later when we got home she told me you know I have been having a little pain in that ear. She doesn t want to go to urgent care. Any suggestions?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It can be due to middle ear causes like otitis. As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
