Herpes zoster (shingles) is a sporadic disease that results from reactivation of latent VZV from dorsal root ganglia.Herpes zoster is characterized by a unilateral vesicular dermatomal eruption, often associated with severe pain.Patients with herpes zoster benefit from oral antiviral therapy acyclovir or valciclovir. If severe pain you can take drugs such as gabapentin or pregabalin prescribed by physician.Numbing agents such as lidocaine gels can be swallowed in small quantity.Shingles generally lasts between two and six weeks. Eat food in small quantity at frequent intervals.
