Suggest Treatment For Shingles

A dr. Diagnosed shingles Oct.18. I only had 3 spots under my right shoulder blade for 2 days. 3rd day they felt sore. I thought infected fly bites. He gave me valacyclovir 500 mg t.i.d plus fucidin cream. In 3 days symptoms disappeared. No pain or redness. People are avoiding me out of fear. Grandkids are off limits. Am I contagious? Can shingles stop that fast?

Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
Shingles or herpes zoster is caused by a virus called Varicella zoster. This virus spreads via the respiratory tract, and humans are the only known reservoir. Anyone getting exposed to you during the phase of the illness stand the risk of acquiring the infection from you. It can also spread through fomites – towels, doorknobs or any other inanimate objects that your family members use after you may have used them, as it is possible that the viral particles from your sneeze or cough could have settled on them.
It is very important that you adopt general measures of hygiene to prevent secondary infection, as well as to avoid disease transmission.
However, after 10-14 days when the symptoms die down, and after the completion of your treatment course, you may resume your normal life as you the virus does not get transmitted after the resolution of the infection.
