Suggest Treatment For Shooting Pain In The Knee

Shooting pain in knee cap (can t put a finger on it). Can be sitting perfectly still, when walking, sleeping is the worst. Sleep with a pillow under my knees, only comfortable on my back, can t really move, legs need to be straight, if my right leg turns out, it s painful. Have to fall a sleep quickly I, get restless in this position. Can t really sleep on my side, sometimes I roll over early in the morning, do have a pillow between my knees, doesn t last long, not comfortsble. Comes and goes, don t know what I m doing to aggravate it. Very stiff when I stand up. Least pain when standing, walking very slow. Somedays are pretty good, get used to the pain, but sleeping is a problem, end off on the couch some nights. Taking tylenol arthritis and a tylenol pm.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, you need to have X-ray of the knee joint and get it reviewed by an orthopedic surgeon to rule out any signs of osteoarthritis, as it is likely possibility and may need topical and oral anti-inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen along with supplements for calcium D3 osien mineral complexes. If symptoms persist, may need intrarticular steroids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
