Suggest Treatment For Short -term Memory Issues While On Wellbutrin

I am 77 years old; and for a few years my short-term memory has slowly declined. I am an avid bridge player, and the memory issue is killing my game. I have been on both wellbutrin and nortriptyline, each for several years. Which medication, if either, is likely to be more responsible for my memory loss? How would you recommend I try tapering off that medication? THANK YOU

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, Wellbutrin can cause such issues more than Amitriptyline however cause can be other than both so a brain scan preferably MRI should be done, to rule out dementia.

Taking ginkobiloba may also help. But after discussing with your psychiatrist Wellbutrin can be tapered down.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
