Suggest Treatment For Shortness Of Breath And Chest Pain

Hello, I am a 21 year old male, about 5 11 and 125 lbs. For the past couple of weeks I ve been experiencing shortness of breath, comes and goes chest pains, and I ve located a walnut-sized lump just above the middle area of my right rib-cage. I m pretty sure it s not early lung cancer being that I have no cough, no raspy or hoarse voice, or other related symptoms. My pupils are also the same size, and I ve heard they would be different sizes for cancer patients. I need to know if this something worth paying for a low-dose CT scan to get checked out, or if it is probably something minor. Thanks in advance for your time.

HI
Thanks for posting your query to Healthcaremagic.

I don't think there is any relation between that Lump and shortness of breath.

Shortness of breath can occur due to many reasons. ). I will first enumerate common conditions that can SOB.
1.     Diseases of Lung : Diseases like Asthma , Bronchitis , Pneumonia, Pleural Effusion can cause SOB.
2.     Diseases of Heart
3.     Anemia : Low Hemoglobin causes gradual onset of SOB.
4.     Kidney Failure
5.     Ascites : Excessive water accumulation in abdomen causes SOB.

Some of the Uncommon causes are
1.     Muscular weakness : Weakness of respiratory muscles can lead to SOB.
2.     Cancer of Lung
3.     Interstitial Lung disease.

In your condition I am suspecting diseases of lungs as most probable cause. I would recommend certain other tests to know the cause of your SOB. The tests are
Complete Hemogram , Serum TSH , Chest X ray PA view , Pulmonary Function test, Serum Creatinine and Ultrasound Abdomen Pelvis .

Kindly revert back to me with these reports.
