Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Alendronate Sodium

I have osteopenia and I have been taking alendronate sodium 35 mg. for over a year I have been experiencing severe bone and muscle pain for the last six months. also tingling in my fingers and hands. These are the side effects listed in the medication guide, what is the danger or the most that could happen if I stop taking the tablet and is there any other medication that I could take?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Alendronate sodium is used to increase bone mass in patients with osteoporosis. Its common side effects are abdominal pain, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, constipation, oesophagitis, erosions, ulceration, peptic ulceration, osteonecrosis of the jaw, bone/joint/muscle pain, hypocalcaemia, and nausea.
This is the best medicine for treatment of osteoporosis. If you stop it, your bones become further weak and your bones might fracture. Other medicines are available such as denosumab but it has more side effects. Calcium is also used but it is not as effective as alendronate.
Advice
1.      Do not stop alendronate unless suggested by your doctor
2.     Take alendronate on an empty stomach. Take with a full glass of plain water at least ½ hour before the 1st food/drink/medication of the day & remain in sitting/upright position for at least ½ hour
3.     Methylcobalamin 500 mcg once daily per oral for 3 months
4.     Maintain good oral hygiene by regularly brushing your teeth twice daily
5.     Drink 4 – 5 liters of water daily to maintain proper hydration
6.     Dental check up annually
7.     Investigations before administration of RECLAST
a.     Serum calcium
b.     Serum alkaline phosphatase
c.     Serum 25 hydroxy vitamin D
