Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went to the doctor on Tuesday with a sinus and ear infection, they gave me antibiotics and I ended up with a really bad yeast infection, very swollen and raw with a burning sensation that s itchy but not overly itchy. I m only finishing day 3 of 7 today of the antibiotics. I took a 1 day yeast infection pill this morning but it s only gotten worse. Should I start taking my prescription of the 3 day course of yeast infection pills that I have tomorrow? Or is that too early? And after my 3 pills are gone can my yeast infection come back again where I will still have another day left of the antibiotics ??
It is common to get yeast infection after taking antibiotics. You should get treated with anti-fungals although you are taking antibiotic treatment. Usually, when taking oral anti-fungals, there is no need to repeat anti-fungal treatment, however, it depends on how your body will react to the treatment. Meanwhile, try to follow your doctor's advice and take medications regularly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
