Suggest Treatment For Skin Allergy Caused By Poison Ivy
I have had two (six day) prednisone treatments - three weeks apart for lower back issues. I am awaiting an epidural shot in my lumbar region. ( two weeks out). In the last five days I have gotten into Poison Ivy. It is on my arms and on the foreskin of genitals( foreskin swelling and it itching.) Question - should I be able to get a steroid for skin- despite having taken these two rounds of steroids? ( It is scary to see my foreskin)- red and swollen! I am 63 years of age and in good health! My wife says just treat with cider vinegar and soda paste!
You can use a local steroid cream on the areas that you have poison ivy. You may need potent steroids such as clobetasol or betamethasone dipropionate.
If the local treatment does not help in the next 3-4 days, a course of oral steroids (prednisone) can be tried as well.
I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. Let me know if I may assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
