Hello and welcome to HCM, Dark coloration of skin can be due to tanning of the skin. Exposure to sunlight is the cause of tanning. Tanning of skin is basically a protective action to prevent damage caused by ultraviolet rays. Tanning takes a long time to revert back. You can prevent tanning by preventing exposure to sunlight by wearing sun-screen and other preventive measures like wearing full sleeves shirts, using an umbrella, etc. However, a clinical assessment by your primary healthcare provider is required to assess whether the darkening is due to tanning or it is due to hyperpigmentation.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
