Suggest Treatment For Slurring Of Speech For A 20-year-old
My 20yo son has recently had 5 shunt revisions in 3 months as well as a posterior fossa decompression surgery. After dx of Chiari he was beginning to lose his speech due to slurring. After it his speech was improved somewhat but within a week his speech began to worsen again. He required another revision at this time. 3 days later he s being discharged and his speech hasn t improved. Is there anyway that it will take longer due to all the recent surgeries or is he going to just learn to deal with this new normal. My question comes down to how long might it take for his neuro symptoms to improve?
As per my clinical experience, there is definite compression or edema over the speech area either in Broaca, Wenicke or Auditory association regions of the brain involving lower frontal, lateral parietal or temporal region of the dominant hemisphere of the brain (usually left sided). Kindly upload latest MRI images of your son for my reference and then I can be in a better position to comment further in this direction.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
