Hiya, I hit the side of my ear on a concrete step yesterday evening, ear went really quite sore but I slept last night on the other side. The swelling still hasn t went down and it still really hurts, there s bruises behind my ear too and it s now about 30 hours since I hit it. I ve felt completely fine otherwise it s just my ear that hurts, do you think I should see a doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, there is possibility of hematoma changes inside the ligaments or muscles around the ear causing such symptoms. Guidelines for better recovery:
- Drink more liquids
- Analgesic as diclofenac or ibuprofen with anti inflammatory action
- Antibiotics to cover gram positive bugs of possible culprit origin
- Local application of ear drops as erythromycin or others and keep the ear covered with sterile cotton
An otoscopy report is must to address the patient report

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
