Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat After Bleaching Hair

Hi, 2 years ago I was bleaching my hair, I used a mixture of household bleach and hair bleach. I think I was over exposed because the next day I woke up with a soar throat. I then boarded a plane and once I landed my voice was completely gone! During the duration of the holiday I had no voice and was coughing of flem, my throat was so soar and raspy. I didn t seek medical advice whilst I was in America and by the time I got home it had calmed down. But soon after I got back I would notice I would get a tight feeling in my throat that would feel so uncomfortable that I would hold my throat because it felt like I couldn t breathe. The pain would also give me a headache and hurt my ears. This has been going on from 2013. It comes and goes and now it has come back and has been here since April 2015. The doctor has prescribed me. Asthma pump, difflam spray and gastro resistant tablets. Can anyone help with advise on what I can do to permanently stop this

Hello,

Stop bleaching the hair? Ok, it isn't clear if this is a long term problem following bleach fumes from a long time ago or a continual problem from regularly bleaching the hair.

The mechanisms are different and overlapping. If there is continuing problems after something that has stopped, you'd have to wonder about something being broken. Like some scar tissue.

And getting a look down there would be needed to see if there is something fixable and where the problem was.

Or if it is from bleaching that is ongoing, obviously stop the bleaching. Some people who are susceptible to a fume have like an immune reaction to it and can't have even small exposures.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman
