Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Breathing Difficulty During Pregnancy

Hi. I am 38 weeks pregnant today. I was supposed to be induced last night out of caution with having some high blood pressure and gestational diabetes this go around....neither of which I ended up taking medicine for. But my induction was postponed due to some kind of virus. For four days now, I have been without voice, very sore throat, dry cough (a few times I ve coughed up dry hard phlegm), and difficulty breathing until today it started to get better some. Haven t noticed a fever. The doctor prescribed me ear drops (bc they both looked bad), as well as a 3 day antibiotic. Should I be concerned about this affecting baby? And should I be concerned with labor if I still can t talk, or breathe completely clear? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

After evaluation of your query, find my answer below.

If there is a substantial amount of difficulty in breathing at 38 weeks of gestation, in my clinic, I do not take chance to let the patient go home.

I prefer to admit you in the well-equipped hospital, give intensive care for respiratory tract infection and clear the breathing as early as possible in this situation, there is a possible threat to baby and mother both.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
