Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've been fighting a sore throat off and on for 2 weeks also a dry cough, yesterday morning I cleared my throat & there was dark and bright red blood, when I cough there is no blood in the mucus. Still happening today should I be concerned never had this happen before.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.
As per your complain sore throat and dry cough can be due to a few causes like bacterial or viral throat infection, acid reflux, allergies etc.. I would suggest you to consult an Otoaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to get a throat swab culture done for throat infection and pH level of throat to rule out for acid reflux.. An upper G.I Endoscopy and Laryngoscopy can also be advised.. Treatment will depend upon the cause.. As of now you can take supportive treatment to relieve pain and soreness.. You can gargle with warm saline solution and do steam inhalations.. You can suck throat lozenges and avoid spicy food.. Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Aleve or Motrin..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
