Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Dry Cough

my husband & I both developed sore throat, raspy cough 1 week ago. Dry hacking coughing is incessant especially at night. No fever, slight intermitant headache, sore throat, clear sputum. Our 3 kids are fine. Area has had a lot of rain, so we have turned our air conditioner on, clean filters. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat and dry cough which seems to be due to chest infection/chronic upper respiratory tract infection.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles. You should visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get chest X-ray done along with throat swab test and blood tests and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should get pulmonary function test done. Take proper course of antibiotics. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids. Apply mist humidifiers in room.
