Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Pain In Neck And Inner Ear

Hello, I have a sore throat that tends to worsen at night when lying down and just general discomfort around my neck and middle/inner ear area. My ears have been checked for any infections and nothing was seen on examination. I m taking Tylenol and Benadryl at night to help with the pain and to get some sleep. I ve had minor issues with my allergies recently, but no congestion or anything as of now. Any idea what could be going on?

Hello,

You have sore throat that tends to worsen at night and have discomfort around the middle ear area. Your ear check up has been done and the reports were normal. Your symptoms are suggestive of seasonal allergy, cold or pharyngitis. Avoid eating or drinking frozen items it will trigger your symptoms and may infect your tonsils and cause pain. Gargle your throat with warm salt water 3-4 times a day. Take antihistamine at bed time, once daily for 3-5 days.

Keep yourself hydrated , take sips of water and fluids / warm beverage throughout the day. Keep a room humidifier to stay comfortable. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, pollution, animal dander, fumes, paint, pollen or dust, etc. You should give voice rest and take liquid or semi solid diet so that you don't hurt your throat. You can take decongestants for relieve if required.

For pain, continue to take Tylenol, one SOS when required. Your symptoms should get better. If the symptoms are persistent with no relief, you can take a course of antibiotics like Doxycyclin-100mg or Augmentin, twice daily for 5 days. You should get sputum test, swab test done. Get X-ray chest (AP and Lat) done. Get clinically examined by a GP. You will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
