Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat, Cough, Congestion And High Fever

My son came down with a sore throat, cough, congestion yesterday and now has a fever of 103. He s 15 years old and I m assuming it is the flu. I ve been giving him Tylenol every 6 hours and just gave him a new dose about 1/2 hour ago and am hoping that the fever comes down....I know that fevers usually spike at night. How concerned should I be if he hovers around 103 even with the Tylenol?

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of a sore throat, cough, congestion and high fever which is due to bacterial infection leading to strep throat and could be viral co-infection as well.

I would suggest you take steam inhalation on a daily basis and avoid cold carbonated beverages. Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. Throat lozenges one every 4 hours are also helpful.

You should take Diphenhydramine and Dextromethorphan for 4 to 5 days. If the condition does not get better, then consult an ENT specialist for proper examination and treatment.

Go for a throat swab test and blood test and start with a proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
