Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat, Fever And Swallowing Difficulty

My 24-year-old daughter started with a sore throat it hurts to swollow and has a 103.2 fever. In June she had similar symptoms but felt much worse and her tonsills had what looks like pus on them. She had blood work done her neutrophils were slightly elevated at that time. Why is she having this again and should I be worried. She took Augmentin 875mg bid the last time and now again this time.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query, you have sorethroat, fever and swallowing difficulty which is due to inflammation of tonsils leading to tonsillitis. Need not to worry.

I would suggest you to maintain complete oral hygiene and do warm saline gargles. Avoid intake of cold beverages and sharp spicy food.

If symptoms keep on persisting, visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go for blood and throat swab test and get it examined and start treatment accordingly.

Take proper course of stronger antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medicines after proper prescription. Take throat lozenges.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
