Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat With Dark Blue Veins

I have had an unusually sore throat for 10 days. That has now subsided although has still not gone. I have noticed this evening that the 2 veins on the underside of my tongue are blackened. I am usually as fit as a fiddle so all of this is unsual for me.

Hi,

The pharyngitis causing sore throat should be well investigated by throat swab, tests of blood and clinical evaluation so that a proper treatment can be done with an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and Povidone iodine gargles. Complete the courses till cured, do not get under-treated to avoid recurrence. The lingual veins which are under-surface of tongue are normally large and that is why appear dark hence I think this must be normal and surely your ENT Surgeon would help you further if you still have a doubt.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
