Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
So lately my throat has been very sore and today I was eating a cliff bar at lunch and had a very difficult time swolowing it. It was not painful but it seemed as if it just could not go done my throat. I usually have enlarged tonsils so they have not changed but when I looked in my mouth with a flash light I could see a white flap like object that I have never seen before. It feels said there is something in my throat at all times. What is causing this and should I see a doctor?
You are suffering from soreness and pain in the throat. You have difficulty in swallowing. You are suggested to take adequate amount of fluids and water to keep yourself hydrated. Take liquid or semi solid diet so that you do not hurt your throat. Gargle with salt water 2-3 times a day.
You should get clinically examined by an ENT, get required throat swab test, sputum test, required imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing you symptoms. Your symptoms may be indicative of strep throat, oral thrush, pharyngitis, or laryngitis. It will be treated with a course of antibiotics (doxycycline or cephalexin) and analgesics(acetaminophen). If tonsilitis is detected it will be given conservative treatment or surgery may be recommended if required. Quit smoking & stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
