Suggest Treatment For Soreness Of Tongue With Red Patches While On Penicillin

Daughter was diagnosed with strep throat and prescribed penicillin. Within two days of taking medicine, her tongue is raw with blotchy red areas. Stopped taking penicillin. What can we do for her help the soreness of her tongue until we return to the doctor tomorrow?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain it looks like your daughter has an allergic reaction or a side effect of antibiotic intake leading to redness or inflammation inside the mouth and the condition is known as APTHOUS STOMATITIS..
It is one of the common side effect of antibiotic intake..

First of all stop giving her antibiotic..

To relieve pain you can make her gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Make her do cool water rinses..
Make her suck ice pops..
Taking Vitamin B complex tablets can help..
Give her soft and bland diet..
Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can help..
Avoid spicy and sharp foods as they can increase inflammation..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
