Suggest Treatment For Spider Bite Like Blister On Leg

I think I got a spider bite. It has blistered (about the size of a half-dollar), looks infected and has a red ring around it. It is on my leg and is somewhat painful. I can probably get to our family Dr. tomorrow but am wondering what to do in the meantime.

Hello,

You are suffering from spider bite on the leg. You have blister on the leg, looks infected and painful. You should clean the affected area with water and soap. You can use an antibacterial soap. Ulcerating lesions should be cleaned twice a day, regularly to prevent any chance of infection. When the injured area gets dry, you are suggested to apply ointment bacitracin or Neosporin cream for relieve and to prevent spread of infection.

Cool compress will give relieve. You can take antihistamine, one stat. Take acetaminophen, one SOS to help reduce pain and swelling. Sometimes, spider bite presents with serious symptoms like difficulty in breathing, nausea and vomiting, vision problems, muscle pain, cramps, weakness or paralysis. In case you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should visit ER urgently. You need medical aid.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
