Suggest Treatment For Spots With Light Colors On Back And Shoulder

My husband is african american and he has light colored spots covering most of his upper back and shoulders and it seems to be continuously spreading. I think it's a fungus. He thinks it is a form of exzema. What is it and what can we get over the counter for it.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
You husband might have developed fungal infection.
Your description matches with that.
A mild fungal infection called as P. Versicolor presents like this.
Please get a KOH mount done,
This can confirm the fungal etiology.
Treatment can be with oral ant ifungals as well as with topical anti fungals.
Treatment must be continued for at least a month to prevent recurrence.
Please meet a dermatologist for exact diagnosis.
Let me know if you have any other doubt.
Wishing him a good health.
Thank you
