General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Spotting that is lasting and is not responding to treatment needs investigations. First she needs to do a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.
If the pregnancy test comes out negative she will need a gynecological exam and with it depending on the risk factors and age she may need cervical swabs to rule out chlamydia and gonorrhea and a pap smear and she might also need a transvaginal ultrasound to check for pelvic masses and the uterine inner layer thickness to rule out problems with the uterus (endometrial thickness or masses).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
