Suggest Treatment For Staphylococcus Aureus Infection
Good morning Sir,i went to see a doctor to carry out a sputum test, cos i cough out sputum and i was complaining of indigestion, results later showed that i have staphyloccocus aureus infection, Neoclav was prescribed 1tablet 2times daily but still coughing out that phlegm, and this has led to me losing weight Pls reply....
Any bacterial infection needs treatment with antibiotics for the complete prescribed course of atleast 5-7 days which may be extended according to clinical response.
The antibiotic you were prescribed is well known to have activity against Staphylococcus. Clinical improvememt is usually seen in 3-4 days. If you have not yet completed the entire course, I suggest you do so. The phlegmy cough will gradually decrease.
If you have completed yhe course but still have phlegm, the bacteria may be resistant to the antibiotic. In this case, you need to get a sensitivity test done on the sputum sample. The results will show which other antibiotic will work.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Dr Geeta
