Suggest Treatment For Sternum Pain

I have been having pain in my sternum area for several months now, my doctor thought I had too much acid in my stomach and prescribed Prilosec, but that made it worse. I went off the medicine but am still have pain and bloating. I am very concerned it is serious. My doctor was going to do a liver blood test but didn't. He just told me to take a Zantac a day.
