Suggest Treatment For Stiffness And Pain In The Fingers Post Injury

I punctured myself in the skin between my thumb & index finger. I bandaged it 12 hours ago. The pain and stiffness seems to be moving from my wound area to the other fingers and wrist. I took the bandage off and there is a red ring around the wound. when I squeeze the area around the wound I hear a sound almost like bubbles fizzing. I can t squeeze my thumb & fingers together without a lot of pain. I did clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Your wound seems infected and needs to be seen and treated by a doctor right away.

*what punctured your hand?
*do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
*is your hand swollen?

The infection can spread into the blood as there is a rich blood supply to the hand.
Certain bacteria spread more rapidly and can result in serious infections.

I recommend :
-a physician consult
-blood tests (complete blood count)
-keep area clean and dry. Apply dry sterile dressing and a betadine or topical antibacterial cream.
-keep arm at shoulder level. Don't hang it. Place it on a couple of pillows while you sleep so that its above the level of your heart.
-if you have fever, severe pain, foul smelling discharge or the infection seems to be spreading, go to the ER right away.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
