Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a stiffness in the back of my neck and a headache from the base of my neck to the middle of my head for about a week. At first, I thought i slept strangely and kinked my neck, but this hasn t let up and Advil doesn t give me relief. Any thoughts?
The most common cause for such a pain is usually a muscle pull / strain due to sleeping in wrong position and it can be managed with plain pain killers like paracetamol and also local painkiller ointments. It is however difficult to say if that is the actual cause for it.
I would advise you to wait for few more days and if the condition doesn't improve then get few tests done to rule out other causes like cervical spondylosis. Also, please get your BP monitored twice a day for a period of 5 days and review it with your treating doctor especially if you are above the age group of 40 and if its higher than 140/90 mm of mercury.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
