Suggest Treatment For Stinging Pain While Urinating

I had to have an emergency operation and my kidney stone lasered as the stone which was 3 cms big was blocking my ureter. I came out of surgery with severe pain in my left hip. I told the nurse while I was in the recovery room and she gave me some injections for the pain and sent me home. I returned to emergency the next day as the pain was worse than it had been before surgery. I thought that maybe the stent had moved so the ER Dr ordered an ultra sound which came back with the results that there was still a stone of 1.4 cms in my kidney. This is just under half the size of the original stone. I have to have the stent removed in 2 more days as they only want it left in for 5 days. I am worried that when I do this, the 1.4 cm stone which is too big to pass through the ureter, will become stuck and I ll have to go in for another emergency surgery. I have phoned my urologist and left this information with his receptionist. I asked if I could speak to him to relay the information but was told that he doesnt phone his patients and doesn t need to see me for a follow up. Receptionist told me that she spoke with the surgeon and he s not worried about the stone or its size as they don t rely on ultra sounds results for stone size and he believes it to be inaccurate. I was told to go ahead and remove the stent and that they d follow up with me in a month for an X-ray. I m worried as I have the surgeon telling me that he got everything when he did the surgery and a radiologist saying there s a 1.4 cm stone. Also the urologist gave me 3 days of Cipro but I am still having stinging while urinating. I mentioned this to the urologist receptionist and she said that both the extreme pain I m having and the stinging are because of the stent. I have made an appointment with my family Dr to have the stent removed in 2 days as I don t feel comfortable doing it myself and can t get into the urologist until the middle of next week. What should I do in all of these instances?

Hello,

As per your description of symptoms, I think it is a normal cough, you can try following things to prevent UTI and improve your condition:

1) Drink plenty of water to relieve burning and soothe your throat, as you are already doing. you can drink little luke warm or normal water.

2)Take 2-4 mashed leaves of holy basil and mix it with half tsp of honey and take it every morning. you can take only mashed leaves with plain water also. honey just to soothe your throat but little.

3)Drink unsweetened cranberry juice to prevent UTI.

4)Avoid spicy, cold, outside food and caffeine drinks.

5) Take bland, light and soft foods. Use lemon in vegetables and dals or any dish. it will help in improving your immunity.

6) Do gargles minimum 2- 3 times and take rest.

But still if the symptoms persists, get your urine test (routine + culture) done. Take your early morning midstream urine sample.

Hope I have answered your query. You can reach me here for further queries.

Take care.
